Miss S Pope - Headteacher

Pope.jpg

My name is Miss Pope and I’m incredibly proud to say I am the Headteacher here at Westfield Primary School. I have 2 children, a son in the RAF and a daughter who works for the Rugby League Foundation. I also have a very lively dog called Oscar who acts like a third child!

I joined the Westfield Primary on secondment as an interim, acting Headteacher in September 2019, quickly realised that this was the school for me and became substantive Headteacher in December 2020.

From an early age, inspired by my childhood reception teacher, I knew I was going to be a teacher. I mapped out a path, completing a BA in fine art with qualified teaching status and starting my teaching career in a school in Warrington. I remained at the school for 23 years with the last 8 years as Deputy Headteacher. I was also seconded to two primary schools during this time supporting school improvement.

I find the headship role to be fulfilling, thought provoking and enjoyable, with naturally some challenges here and there. Most importantly, I want everyday to have a sparkle moment in it! My desire is that every child in our school leaves with the greatest knowledge, skills and personal attributes to succeed in life beyond Westfield Primary.

Miss N Wright Willow Class Teacher (Reception) & EYFS Lead

Wright.jpg

My name is Miss Wright and I am the Reception Class Teacher in Willow Class and EYFS Lead. I feel privileged to be teaching the youngest children at Westfield Primary School and strive to provide them with the best start to their journey at Westfield. Since starting at Westfield, I have been warmly welcomed by children, families and colleagues and I am enjoying being part of this wonderful school community.

I am a passionate and enthusiastic EYFS teacher and leader, with over 18 years teaching experience. At the heart of my teaching is my belief that the early years are a vital time for every child and play a significant role in shaping the person they become and the life opportunities they will have.

I am a huge advocate for learning through play. Children learn best when they are engaged, active and absorbed in meaningful play based learning. I enjoy creating exciting and stimulating learning opportunities for the children within the Areas of Continuous Provision, both indoors and outdoors.

I have a real love for reading and really value the importance of promoting reading for pleasure, within school. One of my favourite areas in Willow Class, is the Reading Area, and my favourite time of day is story time, when we can share a lovely story together. My favourite children’s author is Julia Donaldson. I have chosen her for our very own class author in Willow Class and I am looking forward to sharing her wonderful stories with the children.

I enjoy all aspects of school life. I have recently achieved my National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership (NPQSL) which enabled me to develop my leadership expertise further to improve outcomes in school.

In life outside of school, I am a very proud Mum to my son. Family time is so important for us and we enjoy spending quality time together. Movie nights are a firm favourite of ours and trips to the cinema. We enjoy lots of adventures, like going to the zoo and steam train rides at The East Lancashire Railway.

Mrs K Crook - Cherry Class Teacher (Year 1 /Year 2)

My name is Mrs Crook and I have been a teacher at Westfield since 2014. I love the feeling of community at Westfield that comes from the staff, children and parents! I have taught in Year1, Year 2 and in Year 3 and I am the subject leader for Phonics and P.E. Luckily, this is also where my main personal interests lie.

I studied my undergraduate degree at Liverpool John Moores Univeristy and gained a BSc in Sports Science before going onto complete my teaching degree (PGCE) at Edge Hill University.

I thoroughly enjoy my subject roles at school. I enjoy seeing the reading journey of our children from EYFS and progressing through Key Stage 1. Watching them gain phonic knowledge, grow in confidence and see the joy in their faces when words on a page are brought to life in books that they can read independently is what teaching is all about! My passion over the years has truly been P.E as almost every positive memory I have from my own school days involves P.E. I have a strong belief that every child should enjoy and understand the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle as the physical and mental health benefits as they grow into adults are vital.

Outside of school, I love to spend my time with my husband and two young sons. We enjoy going to our local park, National Trust sites and the zoo!

Mrs C Havard - KS1 Resource Base Lead Teacher and SENCO

Hi. My name is Mrs. Havard.  I have worked at this wonderful school since September 2005 and have taught almost all year groups, but have spent most of my time teaching Key Stage 2.

I have been the subject lead teacher for Computing for a number of years and I thoroughly enjoy both teaching, leading and learning about this subject. I also lead PSHE which is a real passion of mine, including mental health and the skills we need to develop as individuals. During my time at Westfield I have also led Science, since this was my background degree before I entered teaching, and I am still passionate about championing Science in the school. My other role is school SENCo.

Away from school, I have two primary-aged daughters and enjoy films, camping and cycling. I also have a real love of animals, love going to the zoo and have two guinea pigs who I adore!

Mr Colecliffe Larch Class Teacher (Year 3/Year 4)

Colecliffe.jpg

My name is Mr Colecliffe and I have the absolute pleasure of teaching the Year 3 and Year 4 children in Larch Class. Although relatively new to teaching, retraining at a later stage of my life, I have a strong passion to support children in navigating their educational journey by providing a fun, positive and challenging learning environment and providing them with life skills – alongside developing their academic side.

I graduated from Liverpool Hope University with a degree in Educational Psychology and English Language. I then completed my PGCE through the School Direct partnership with Liverpool Hope University and the Warrington Teaching Alliance.

Being a father of three boys (almost all young men themselves now) I wholly believe I have a wealth of experience to call on to support the children, and I feel that coming into the role at a later age gives me a different perspective on teaching. I fully plan on using my experiences to make learning fun and engaging.

Outside of school, my passions are reading (you will often find me walking to school reading a book), music (although older than Mr Parker, my concert going days are not behind me) and (again, unlike Mr Parker), I am a keen Manchester Utd fan and praying for a return of the good times. My other, slightly geeky, hobby is collecting Lego Marvel Minifigures – which my partner lovingly allows me to proudly display in our living room.

Mr J Parker - Assistant Headteacher/Oak Class Teacher (Year 5/Year 6)

DSC_6095.jpg

My name is Mr Parker and I teach Year 5 and Year 6.  I am the Assistant Headteacher, and I lead maths, behaviour and music. I am also the co-ordinator for educational visits.

I graduated from Bangor University with a degree in History and Welsh History. I then completed my PGCE at Liverpool Hope University in 2009, including completing two placements at Westfield!

I became a father in 2018 to my beautiful little boy Kit, and a little girl, Ivy, in November 2021 and that gives me a brand new perspective on teaching and working in a school, fully understanding how all you parents feel now!

Teaching is great fun, as you simply never know what will happen on a day-to-day basis. The days simply fly by and the laughs and fun you get from working with the children is fantastic. My favourite type of Music is Heavy Metal (although my concert going days are now far behind me) and I am a Manchester City fanatic! My own personal target is working on my handwriting and getting a pen licence.

Mrs Davies - KS2 Resource Base Lead Teacher

Davies.jpg

My name is Mrs Davies and I am the KS2 Speech and Language Resource Base Lead here at Westfield. I have taught in a range of different year groups during my teaching career, with most of my experience being predominantly in KS2. Along with supporting the development of our pupils’ speech, language and communication needs, I also lead English across the school. I love reading and I am passionate about teaching children how to read – reading is the gateway that makes all other learning possible after all!

I always knew that I wanted to become a teacher, but I also have a passion for drawing and photography. Before completing my PGCE, I studied Fine Art at The University of Leeds. I love learning and I am always looking for new ways to further develop my skills as a teacher. As such, I also hold an MA in Education and an NPQML.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and our dog, Brody. I have two young children who keep me busy on the weekends. We love to visit National Trust sites as well as going for long walks in Delamere Forest.

Mrs V McIlroy - Cherry Class and PPA Teacher

My name is Mrs McIlroy and I have the pleasure of teaching across Westfield this year as the PPA teacher, and I am also in Cherry Class on a Tuesday afternoon and all day Friday. I have worked at the school since 2011, as a trainee teacher on my final placement.  I am also the subject leader for History, Geography, Spanish and Outdoor Learning (including Forest Schools).  I am a proud mum to my own two children and we enjoy long walks in the forest and at the beach with our dog.

I studied Law at the University of Central Lancashire but felt as though it was not the career for me.  After periods of volunteering and working with children, I realised that I had a passion for working with children and subsequently went on to study a PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Cumbria.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching at Westfield Primary School and feel a great sense of community from the staff, children and parents, like one big happy family!  I strive to ensure that all of the children that I teach have a positive experience in school and gain the skills and confidence that they need to challenge themselves to become independent and inquisitive individuals.  I fully believe that school should be a place where children make progress in their academic knowledge, but also in their social and emotional development.
