Sycamore Class - KS2 Speech & Language Resource Base 2024 - 2025

Welcome to Sycamore Class!

We are really lucky to have different people who help us in Sycamore Class.

Here are our key adults:

• Mrs Davies - Class Teacher
• Miss McGreal - Teaching Assistant
• Mrs Thomson - Teaching Assistant
• Mrs McIlroy - PPA Teacher (Thursday mornings)

Our KS2 Speech and Language Resource Base is set up to specifically support children with speech, language and communication needs. Sycamore Class is located within the main school building and accommodates pupils from Year 3 through to Year 6. It is a friendly and welcoming classroom where every child is supported to reach their full potential!

Pupils who access Sycamore Class will have:

• Access to a full, rich and relevant curriculum
• Opportunities to develop socially and academically
• Specialist support through small group teaching
• A language rich environment

All children in Sycamore Class also have a place within a mainstream class. The time the children spend in their mainstream class is dependent on pupils' individual needs. 

What are we learning in Autumn 2?

This half term, our focus text is Leon and the Place Between. We will be using this text to further develop our understanding of nouns and adjectives. To support our sentence structure, we will also use widgit visuals so that we are able to confidently use a rich and varied vocabulary. Each pupil has their own SLC targets set for this half term, but as a group, we will be focusing on focus on verb tense, possessive 's' and plurals.

PE

Pupils in Sycamore Class need to come to school dressed in their PE kits on the following days:

Tuesday - Taekwondo lesson (Y5&6 pupils only)

Wednesday - Forest School and PE lesson (All pupils)

Thursday - Swimming (Y3&4 pupils only)

Reading

Reading books are changed every Wednesday. Each child will bring home a reading practice book linked to their reading ability. If they are accessing phonics, this will be a Read Write Inc book. Pupils will also bring home a reading for pleasure book. This is for you to share with them and enjoy!

We encourage children to read at home as often as possible and this should be recorded on our digital planner platform - Boom Reader.
