Good morning Oak Class!
I can’t believe that it is Friday already! What a week it has been! Later today, Isla and I are planning on making the carrot and apple muffins that I have mentioned on our weekly learning grid. I shall update you with how they turn out. Wish me luck as I don’t have any scales that work at the moment – oops!
Writing – The Kraken
Today is the last day we will be working on the poem, The Kraken by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
Read the poem again. Look at how the poet uses lots of prepositional phrases in the poem. Try to spot them all and write them down in your home learning books e.g. beneath the abysmal sea.
Once you have done this, have a go at writing your own descriptive poem about a sea monster. You may wish to design this monster first (this can also be done in your home learning book). Use the synonyms that you found from yesterday’s task as well as the prepositional phrases you have found in The Kraken poem in your writing.
Imagine your sea monster lives in an underwater sea cave lair. There are no rules for this poem and don’t worry about rhyming.
Here are some examples that I came up with for my sea monster:
In his lair, the dreadful slumbering monster wheezes.
Lapping, splashing, spraying, the wave swell above him.
Inside a grimy, murky cave he was hidden for an eternity.
I look forward to reading some of your poems!
Have a lovely Friday everyone. You can contact me via on class blog with any questions or alternatively, you can ask an adult to contact my through my email – mrsdavies@westfieldprimaryschool.com
Keep safe and keep smiling.
