Good morning Oak Class!
I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday. I took Isla to Frodsham to go for a walk in Castle Park. She got a new ball at the weekend, so we had a little kick about on the field and then after that, we had an ice cream so that was a nice treat for us both.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Chapter Six – The journey from platform nine and three - quarters
Today, we will be continuing to work on chapter six. It is in this chapter that we are first introduced to Hermione Granger (she is one of my favourite characters).
The following extract is when we first meet Hermione in the story and here is what she says to Harry and Ron.
"Well, it's not very good, is it? I've tried a few simple spells just for practice and it's all worked for me. Nobody in my family's magic at all, it was ever such a surprise when I got my letter, but I was ever so pleased, of course, I mean, it's the very best school of witchcraft there is, I've heard - I've learned all our course books by heart, of course, I just hope it will be enough - I'm Hermione Granger, by the way, who are you?” She said this all very fast.
I would like you to write a character description about Hermione. She is an interesting character for many reasons, but as she told the boys, her parents are both muggles and so her acceptance into Hogwarts is an unusual one. Use the image of her that I have provided to support your description, but please remember, you need to describe more than just her physical appearance.
There are many ways to describe a character without direct characterisation. Consider some of the following techniques to use:
- Use dialogue to convey character
- Compare and contrast with other characters instead of direct description
- Describe interactions with other characters
I hope you all have a lovely day everyone! If you need me, please contact me via our blog. Alternatively, ask an adult to email me.
