Oak Class Home Learning 01.05.2020

Date: 1st May 2020 @ 7:55am

Good morning Oak Class!

I can’t believe it’s Friday already! I hope that you have all had a lovely week and that all of your families are safe and well. It's the 1st of May today - a new month with new goals. Let's start May off in a positive way. Why not set yourself a personal target/goal to try and achieve by the end of the month? It will give you something to work towards and keep you motivated whilst you're not in school.

Today’s task comes in two parts. There is a comprehension element and then some writing to complete. As this week hasn’t had a direct writing focus, I have decided to end with a story that I know you will all enjoy.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

I will post a short extract from the chapter, ‘The Boy Who Lived’ so you don’t need to own a copy of the book to complete this activity. The extract can be found on a separate blog post. Alternatively, you can follow the link to read the whole chapter - https://hpmedia.bloomsbury.com/rep/files/harry-potter-and-the-philosophers-stone-extract.pdf

Part 1 – Comprehension

Write the answers in your home learning books. You do not need to write the question.

·Where do Mr and Mrs Dursley live?

·What is Mr Dursley’s job?

·What went past the window?

·What does ‘beefy’ mean?

·Find and copy a phrase that shows that Mrs Dursley is nosey.

·What does it mean if you can’t bear something?

·Why didn’t the Dursleys want anyone to know about the Potters?

·What does Mr Dursley think is peculiar about the cat?

Part 2 – Writing

Please complete this in your home learning books (on the same page) or on Purple Mash/Microsoft Word.

Write a diary entry in role as Mr Dursley and recount what happened on the morning of that dull, grey Tuesday. Think about how he felt and what he was thinking during the start of the peculiar events. Only write about the events from the extract. Make sure that you recount the events in chronological order.

I hope you all have a fabulous day and enjoy the writing activity. Please contact me via the class blog if you need me. I would love to read some of your writing from today, so I openly encourage everyone to either post their work on their personal blogs, or to email me a copy.

If you have not yet accessed Bug Club this week, then please endeavour to do so. Well done to everyone that has already! J

Missing the smiles and laughter from you all!
