What a strange week it has been! The world is currently poorly and so everyone is doing their best to give it a spring clean. The government have put some measures in place to keep everyone safe and this has meant the closure of schools. I have mixed feelings about this - I know it's the right thing to do, but I miss my lovely class an awful lot.
One thing is for sure, even though we are only a few days into the lockdown, it's made me realise that we shouldn't take the small things for granted. I miss the morning conversations with my class and funny stories that they like to tell me. I miss the hustle and bustle of the school day and the sound of laughter on the playground. I miss the noise. How crazy is that? The silence can be deafening at times. However, I know that all of my pupils are happy and safe spending times with their loved ones. I hope they know we still care about them.
Since school closed, I have spent a little more time at home than usual (getting home from work earlier) so I've really enjoyed spending more time with Isla. She loves all of the extra attention and we've been doing lots more activities at home than we usually would. At the weekend, we made cakes, tidied up the garden, painted some pictures and took the dogs for a walk. Everywhere was so calm and peaceful and Isla loved pointing out all of the homemade rainbow pictures that so many of our neighbours have displayed in their windows. The world truly is a beautiful place!
On Monday, I found an old roll of wallpaper, so I secured it to our dining room table and every night since, we have sat down to draw on it. I'm hoping by the end of the week it will be full of bright and colourful pictures!
Oscar Wilde once said, "When it rains, look for rainbows. When it's dark, look for stars." I think this quote is really prevalent at this moment in time. I'm looking for little bursts of happiness in everything we do! It's important to know that everyone will be back together again soon and the world will be a better place for it.
